DESCRIPTION:On May 24th\, as Vancouver drifts into that hazy space between spring and summer\, Descent returns to its long-standing home at The Red Room\, bringing with it nearly two decades of dark devotion\, pulsing music\, and a community that has truly stood the test of time (and a few questionable fashion phases we will not be discussing). \nRunning from 9pm to 1am\, this edition leans into an understated theme of duality and allure\, where shadow meets spectacle and every face hints at something just beneath the surface. Inspired by that striking half-mask aesthetic\, the night invites you to explore your darker half\, or at least dress like you have one. \nSince its inception in 2007\, Descent has grown into one of Vancouver’s most enduring alternative nights\, a rare constant in a city where venues and scenes can disappear faster than your drink on a packed dance floor. It is not just an event. It is a gathering place\, a ritual\, and a reliably moody refuge for goths\, rivetheads\, darkwave devotees\, and the delightfully curious. Whether you have been attending for years or are stepping in for the first time\, you will find a space that is welcoming\, expressive\, and grounded in respect. \nProviding the soundtrack for the evening\, residents DJ Surreal\, DJ Joshy Neurotic\, and DJ MissBDeath will guide you through a seamless blend of goth\, industrial\, EBM\, and darkwave. Expect brooding classics\, driving beats\, and at least one track that makes you pause mid-dance and dramatically stare into the distance like you are in a very niche music video. \nAnd while Descent never needs an excuse to celebrate\, this particular night quietly coincides with DJ Surreal’s birthday. No spotlight\, no spectacle\, just an unspoken invitation to raise a glass\, share a nod\, and maybe dance a little harder in appreciation. \nWith tickets at $10 in advance or $15 at the door\, Descent continues to prove that you do not need extravagance to create something unforgettable. Just the right people\, the right music\, and a room full of beautifully dark energy. \nSo step inside\, embrace the atmosphere\, and lose yourself for a while. At Descent\, the night is not something you attend. It is something you become. \nEvent Code of Conduct\n1. CONSENT MATTERS \nYes means yes. Always obtain explicit verbal consent before engaging in any physical or intimate activity. If someone doesn’t give a clear “yes\,” then it’s a “no.” This applies to all conduct within the club including\, but not limited to\, physical touch\, photographs\, recording video\, etc \n2. SET CLEAR BOUNDARIES \nCommunicate your boundaries clearly to other attendees. Be clear. If you feel that setting boundaries will jeopardize your personal safety\, please approach a Descent Staff Member \n3. APPROACH DESCENT STAFF FOR SUPPORT \nApproach any Descent Staff Member for support on any issues that are a cause for concern. For confidentiality\, staff may not be able to disclose the outcomes to you. Trust that staff are following up. If you still feel it’s not being addressed\, ask to speak to DJ Surreal. \n3. HEED WARNINGS FROM STAFF \nReported inappropriate behaviour will results in warning from Descent or club staff. Staff will be monitoring for further infractions after a warning has been given. Failure to comply with requests or warnings from staff can result in being asked to leave the event. \n4. ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY \nAny form of discrimination\, hate-speech\, repeated harassment\, assault\, or non-consensual behavior is grounds for immediate removal from the event and potential further consequences. Please treat all attendees and staff with respect. Let’s keep this a fun place to be for everyone!
